Parca Auxiliary History

Until 1985, Parca Organization’s only fundraising activities consisted of a thrift shop and membership dues. Cliff Lundberg, who was then president of the Parca Foundation Board of Trustees, knew the organization needed a new source of fundraising to complete construction on a new group facility in San Carlos, the Cedar Street Home. Cliff relied on a small group of creative and generous women who knew how to throw parties to help him organize a spring event. He dubbed them the “decorating committee”, including Barbara Brown, Sharon Dolin, Maureen Gilmartin, and Jane Jackson. These women sweetened the lives of the developmentally disabled of the Peninsula, and Parca Auxiliary grew from this devoted committee and their friends. The first Garden Party, held on October 5, 1985 at the Folgers’ Mansion, was the foundation for Parca Auxiliary’s much-anticipated social event, the annual Spring Luncheon and Fashion Show – today, the auxiliary’s primary fundraiser for Parca.

Our founding members continue to be active in Parca Auxiliary’s efforts, and their love, devotion and tradition also lives on through their family members. Cliff Lundberg’s daughter, Paige Lundberg Farsad, originally sold raffle tickets at the first Garden Party and recently served as VP of Membership. Jennifer Brown Moriarty, daughter of Barbara Brown, was the Auxiliary President in 2001 and became a Sustainer after years of devotion to the Auxiliary. Jennifer just returned as the Auxiliary's Sustainer Liaision. Maureen Gilmartin's niece, Christina Horwitz Tan, was the auxiliary's 1999 President and is also now a Sustainer, while Maureen's daughter-in-law, Tera Gilmartin is currently the Co-Chair of Events. Today, the Parca Auxiliary consists of 50 actives, 14 provisionals, 65 sustainers and 14 founding members.

The Courtney Jones Memorial Endowment
Established by the Parca Auxiliary in 2005, the Courtney Jones Memorial Endowment is a long-term financial safety net for the operations of the Parca Organization. The endowment is named after a young Parca client who recently passed away. Courtney's mother, Vicki Jones, was instrumental in forming the Auxiliary in 1985. Each year, a portion of the funds raised at the Parca Auxiliary luncheon will be placed in the Endowment as a legacy of continued support for Parca.
